You can visit Chengdu all year- round. Chengdu offers many attractions that can be visited and seen in different periods of the year. However, it is good to know the weather in every season before traveling to the city of Pandas and its natural attractions.
The best time to visit Chengdu is during the spring and autumn months when the weather is most pleasant and ideal for sightseeing.

Spring in Chengdu (March to June)
The spring offers mild and comfortable weather, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F). During this season, the city is at its lushest, with vibrant greenery and blooming flowers creating a beautiful setting for outdoor activities. It’s an ideal time to visit some of the famous parks, like People’s Park, where you can enjoy tea under the blossoming trees. Spring is also perfect for visiting the panda reserves, such as the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where the pandas are more active in the cooler weather. The pleasant temperatures make it easy to explore the city’s cultural and historical sites, while the fresh air adds to the enjoyment of Chengdu’s relaxed atmosphere.

Autumn (September to November)
Autumn in Chengdu brings cool and crisp weather, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 25°C (59°F to 77°F). This season is known for its clear skies and comfortable conditions, making it an excellent time for exploring the city. The autumn foliage adds a beautiful backdrop to Chengdu’s parks, temples, and historical sites, such as the Wuhou Shrine and Jinli Ancient Street. Autumn is also a fantastic time to indulge in Chengdu’s world-renowned culinary scene. The cooler weather enhances the experience of enjoying spicy Sichuan dishes, from hotpot to street food, as you wander through the city’s vibrant markets and food streets.

Other Seasons
Summer (July to August)
Summer in Chengdu is hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F). This season can be busy with tourists, as many people visit during the school holidays. While the high humidity might be uncomfortable for some, summer is also the best time to experience the full flavor of Sichuan cuisine, which locals believe is best enjoyed in hot weather. The spicy dishes are said to help cool you down by making you sweat. Although the city can be crowded, there are plenty of air-conditioned indoor attractions, such as museums and teahouses, where you can escape the heat. Evenings are lively, with locals gathering in parks for dancing and socializing, making summer a vibrant time to experience the city’s unique culture.
Winter (December to February)
Winter in Chengdu is mild compared to other parts of China, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F). This season sees fewer tourists, providing a quieter, more intimate experience of the city. The milder winter weather makes it possible to explore the outdoor attractions comfortably, though it’s advisable to bring warm clothing. Winter is also an excellent time to enjoy Sichuan’s hotpot, a popular dish that’s particularly satisfying in cooler weather. The city’s teahouses become cozy retreats during the winter months, where you can relax with a warm cup of tea while watching the mist roll through the city streets. Additionally, winter offers a unique opportunity to see Chengdu’s cultural heritage without the crowds, making it a peaceful and enriching time to visit.
