About Me

Before traveling, it is advisable wisely to plan your trip to China. I have some useful tips on how to plan your adventure easily. And these suggestions can help you for any destination that you want to visit.

How to Plan your trip to China

Plan your Budget

Planning a budget is the first thing to do for every trip. When you have a budget, you will choose the destination and the length of your stay. It helps in deciding the type of accommodation, dining options, and activities you can afford. Budgeting also allows you to allocate funds for transportation, entrance fees to attractions, and any souvenirs you might want to bring back. By having a clear financial plan, you can enjoy your trip without the stress of unexpected expenses, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable travel experience.

Choose the destination/ part of China that you want to visit

If you know what you want to visit during your trip to China then it will be more easy to plan your itinerary. For, example if you choose a tour to Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai (The Golden Triangle) you will visit all the major attractions in China.

However, if you are more nature traveler you should consider choosing a tour that includes Sichuan natural beauties, or if you want to experience the sacred China then you should choose a tour that includes Shangri-La or Tibet.

Decide when you will visit China

Decide when you will visit China

China is a vast country with different climate zones, so each season offers something unique in various regions. When you plan your trip to China, consider the best time to visit your chosen destinations. Spring and autumn are generally the most pleasant times to travel, with comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery. Summer can be hot and humid, especially in the southern regions, while winter can be cold, particularly in the north. Research the climate and weather patterns of the areas you wish to visit to ensure you experience China at its best, making your trip more enjoyable and memorable.

Choose the right travel agency

I put this in fourth place, but maybe it is the most important and first thing to do when you want to visit China. You can travel on your own in China, but it is advisable to book a tour with a travel agency. Why? Because the travel agent will arrange everything on your behalf, all you have to do is pack and meet your tour guide and enjoy your stay in China.

Choose a local travel agency, there is no one that is better than locals. Me, as a travel guide I always take good care of my travelers, and I make sure that they will have a lifetime experience in China.

Choose the right travel agency

Pack wisely

When you plan your trip to China, consider to pack wisely. I will share the essential items you should pack for your trip to China. However, the most important consideration is what you will be visiting and in which month of the year. Pack according to the season and activities you plan to do. Avoid overpacking, as many attractions in China require walking and hiking. A lightweight backpack or shoulder bag is ideal for easy movement. Remember to include comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a reusable water bottle, and any necessary travel documents and medications. Packing smartly will help you enjoy your trip without unnecessary burdens.

Get Necessary Documents

Another very important thing when you plan your trip to China is to get all the necessary documents. Also, I need to mention that if you plan to visit Tibet on your tour, you will need a Tibet Travel Permit.

Passport

Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay in China. Make several photocopies of your passport’s information page. Keep one copy with you, separate from your passport, and leave another copy with a trusted friend or family member at home. Having copies can help expedite the replacement process if your passport is lost or stolen.

Visa

Check the specific visa requirements for your nationality. Visit the official website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country to get the most accurate and up-to-date information. Determine the type of visa you need based on the purpose of your visit (tourism, business, study, etc.). The most common visa for tourists is the L visa.

Travel Insurance

Purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers health, travel delays, and emergencies. Ensure it includes:

  • Medical coverage for illness or injury while in China.
  • Coverage for emergency medical evacuation if necessary.
  • Trip cancellation or interruption coverage.
  • Coverage for lost or delayed baggage.
  • Personal liability coverage in case you accidentally cause injury or damage to property.

Insurance Card: Carry your travel insurance card with you at all times, as you might need to show proof of insurance in case of a medical emergency.

All the steps above are essential when you plan your trip to China.
